Underneath the tree with silver feathers hanging from it, there is a worn and well-used book with a cover that has the sky, stars, clouds, moon, and sun drawn on it. Inside, there are pages with the names and pictures of Amethyst's very first members (Tide, Pride, Misato . . . ) to the newest of the new (Peregrine, Orion, Starling.) There are notes on each page, with some having more than others, but they are all short, only a word long, with such notes as, kind, soccer, Comet, archer, intelligent and so on. In between each page, there are origami shapes stuck in. Some are new with crisp folds, and others are old and brittle. If you looked inside them (managing to carefully open them is a feat in itself), you will find a note. Some are inane, How are you? Everyone's doing okay.; others are more thoughtful, When you come back, I'll teach you how to play soccer. We're going to make a team.; and some are touching, I miss you. I hope you aren't lonely because you can't see us. We're still waiting. ★
