❀ 24. Paradise Lost
Cigarette.

While Renton is gone, Eureka visits his room and realizes that he truly did leave. She decides to fill his gap by working the store, camping out near Nirvash, and wearing his sweat suit. It is obvious to the entire crew that she is distraught and trying to find a way to cope with his absence. Eventually, Eureka overhears Mischa talking to Holland about Nirvash, "Eureka alone won't work. Nor will Renton by himself. What's important is the balance of the two." With this, Eureka rushes to the Nirvash and pleading with it, "Please! We need to go where Renton is! Don't you need him, too? Please, move, Nirvash!" However, there is no response from Nirvash. While Eureka sobs, Holland says that he will go find Renton and bring him back, asking Eureka to wait for him.

+ Gosh, I really love this arc . . .
+ Nirvash seems to be of two minds about Renton between this memory and the last memory! It wants him around and says as much to Eureka, then it does not want to chase after and find him when he runs away. Eureka does not understand why and may not even be given a reason for the change of heart.
+ Eureka does not vocalize her wish until she hears that Nirvash supposedly desires the same thing. She does not lack the awareness, simply the understanding and acceptance of her own wants. Nirvash is still the conduit for her interaction with the world.
+ Above everything else, Eureka wants Renton to come back. She follows reason and logic to a point, but, really, she just wants him back.
